DESCRIPTION
Methylcobalamin is a cobalamin (MeCbl or MeB12) it is a coenzyme form of Vitamin B12. Methylcobalamin is one of two active coenzymes used by B12-dependent enzymes in the body, and is specifically the B12 form used by 5- methyltetrahydrofolate – homocysteine methyltranferase (MTR), also known as methionine synthase which function to transfer methyl Group for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. Vitamin B6, principally in its biologically active coenzyme form pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, is involved in a wide range of biochemical reactions, including the metabolism of amino acids and glycogen, the synthesis of nucleic acids, hemogloblin, sphingomyelin and other sphingolipids, and the synthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).

L-Methylfolate is the natural, active form of folic acid used at the cellular level for DNA reproduction, the cysteine cycle and the regulation of homocysteine among other functions. It is synthesized in the absorptive cells of the small intestine from polyglutamylated dietary folate. It is a methylated derivate of tetrahydro folate (THF, H4F).

Levomefolic acid is generated by methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) from 5, 10 – methylenetetrahydrofolate (5,10-CH2-THF, MTHF) and used to recycle homocysteine back to methionine by 5 – methyltetrahydro folate – homocysteine methyltransferase (MTR) also known as methionine synthase (MS).

PHARMACOKINETIC:

Absorption: Not available

Volume of distribution: Not available

Protein binding: Very high to plasma protein

Metabolism: Hepatic

Elimination: A majority of the metabolic products appeared in the urine after 6 hours; excretion was generally complete within 24 hours. Folic Acid is also excreted in the milk of lactating mothers.

INDICATION: MTHFR Polymorphism, Hyper-homocysteinemia

ADMINISTRATION: Once daily or as directed by the physician.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS: This product is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

Pyridoxine supplements should not be given to patients receiving the drug levodopa, because the action of levodopa is antagonized by pyridoxine. However, pyridoxine may be used concurrently in patients receiving a preparation containing both carbidopa and levodopa.
